Channelview/ Houston, Texas


Job Title: Warehouse Manager


Reports to: Vice President of Operations

Supervises: Warehouse Supervisor, Warehouse Workers


Job Summary

Under the direction of the Vice President of Operations, the Warehouse Manager is responsible for the efficient day-to-day operation of the warehouse, with particular emphasis on the management of the warehouse supervisory and implementation of warehouse action plans.


Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Operations

Ø Provide direct daily supervision of the supervisors and warehouse personnel to ensure the safe, clean and efficient operation of the warehouse.

Ø Assist in developing a program to train and motivate personnel for increased effectiveness.

Ø On a daily basis, develop and implement shipping and receiving work schedules and assignments to assure effective and efficient operation.

Ø Make recommendations to the Operations VP on programs to improve warehouse operations.


Quality

Ø Supervise in the checking of outgoing and incoming freight for accurate counts and codes.


Equipment

Ø Develop and implement a daily plan for allocating equipment to jobs.

Ø Ensure that equipment is utilized in the most efficient manner.

Ø Coordinate with the Operations VP to ensure that a sound maintenance program is being implemented and followed.


Communications

Ø Interact with other departmental management to achieve mutual goals.

Ø Attend all warehouse meetings.


Shipping/Receiving

Ø Monitor all inbound and outbound shipments scheduling to ensure it is done so that warehouse labor can be efficiently utilized.


Safety, Sanitation, Security

Ø Evaluate housekeeping, security and sanitation levels on a daily basis.

Ø Review warehouse operations daily to ensure the warehouse is neat, clean and well-organized and that damage to product, equipment and the facility is prevented.

Ø Ensure that all safety procedures and policies are followed.

Ø Operate in compliance with OSHA and MSDS standards.


Labor Management

Ø Direct the operations of the warehouse to achieve prescribed objectives.

Ø In collaboration with Human Resources, develop and maintain a productive staff by creating programs for hiring, training and professional development.

Ø Apply sound communication and motivational techniques in supervising, counseling and disciplining subordinates.


Reporting

Ø Ensure that all records and reports regarding warehouse activity are prepared on a timely basis and effectively maintained.

Ø Review operating goals and standards on a daily basis and monitor achievement.


Inventory Management

Ø Ensure proper stock rotation.

Ø Assist in conducting physical inventories and cycle counts as required.


Layout

Ø Assist the Vice President of Operations in planning space utilization to meet prescribed cost standards.

Ø Continually evaluate space utilization and suggest methods for improving layout.

Ø Supervise the relocation and consolidation of products as required.


Budgeting

Ø Work to maintain the operational budget.

Ø Assist in developing the budget when required.


Availability

Ø Tour the warehouse regularly to answer questions, evaluate operations, and solve problems.


Other Duties May Include

Ø Monitor driver time in and out

Ø Do walk-thru reports

Ø Review worksheets

Ø Read gas meters

Ø Safety meeting weekly

Ø Check temperature in coolers

Ø Monthly fire extinguisher inspections – exits – risers

Ø Daily meetings


Qualifications

Education

Ø High School or equivalent; College preferred


Experience

Ø Five to eight years in similar position


Knowledge and Skills

Ø Front-line supervision experience

Ø Demonstrated skills in leadership, organization and communication.

Ø Experience in and an understanding of warehouse operations.
