Lake Polan III
Chairman of the Board of Directors, Chief Executive Officer
Lake also operates real estate holding companies in Kentucky, Virginia and West Virginia, specializing primarily in industrial and commercial properties and totaling over 2,000,000 square feet.
As with the others on Allied’s corporate team, Lake is actively engaged in the life of his community. Currently, he is a Director of the Huntington Regional Chamber of Commerce, a Director of the Marshall University Foundation, a member of the Executive Committee of the Huntington Area Development Council and the Chairman of its Biotech Alliance.
Lake holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Columbia University.
Reo Hatfield
President, Virginia Operations
Reo Hatfield founded Reo Distribution in 1988 and in 1990 it became part of the Allied Logistics family. Applying his substantial experience in all phases of transportation, Reo built the company into a multi-million dollar Total Logistics company that manages several major manufacturers’ transportation and supply chain logistics programs.
Reo Hatfield began his long career in logistics with Smith’s Transfer, where he spent 18 years. Reo served many positions including Terminal Manager in Savannah, Georgia, Trouble shooter for the state of Florida, Director of Sales, General Manager of Smith’s and finally as Vice President of Operations of Smith’s Transfer /American Freight Systems-- the 4th largest trucking company in the U.S. at that time. From Smith, he moved to TranSales Corporation (Inland Port) of Savannah, Georgia where he was Vice President of Savannah Foods, Inc.
A veteran, he served 2 years in Korea as a non-commissioned officer during the Vietnam War. Reo served as Vice Mayor and City Councilman for the City of Waynesboro (Virginia) for 8 years, earning numerous civic recognitions during his tenure, including the Key to the City (twice). Reo presently serves as Chairman to the 25th House of Delegates (Landes) for the State of Virginia, as well as several other positions in local government. Named Leader of Industry in 1994 and Waynesboro Businessman of the Year in 2006, he has also taught several college classes in logistics in Georgia and Virginia. Reo has volunteered service to the Waynesboro Police Department Reserve division which he still serves as Chief of Police reserve division. A proud member of the Hatfield family, Reo led the organization of an official peace treaty to end the historic feud between the Hatfields and the McCoys and for this won awards from the states of West Virginia and Kentucky.
Hatfield graduated from Marshall University’s College of Advanced Traffic program. This special program was a part of the Delta Nu Alpha Fraternity program from the College of Advanced Traffic of Chicago, Ill. Reo served as President of the Delta Nu Alpha Fraternity in Huntington West Virginia and Savannah, Georgia; President of the Traffic Club of America in Huntington, W.V., Savannah, GA. and in Shenandoah Valley of Virginia; as well as many other organizations to include V.P. of the TIA Eastern region.
Jeff Smith
President, West Virginia Operations
With over 20 years of experience in the field of logistics, Jeff Smith has had considerable influence in growing the Allied Logistics family. Before joining the company in 1981 as the Chief Financial Officer for parent company Allied Realty, Jeff worked as a stockbroker for Smith Barney, Harris Upham, and prior to that as an actuarial consultant for the American Benefit Company. In 1994 Jeff became the President of Allied Warehousing Services and in 1997 he was named President of Allied Transportation Services Company as well. Jeff was instrumental in the establishment and development of Allied Processing Services where he has served as its President since its startup in 2000.
Jeff is active within the industry, participating in both the International Warehouse and Logistics Association (IWLA), the Council of Chemical Logistics Providers (CCLP) and as Allied Logistics’ representative on the CKCN Community Advisory Panel.
Jeff holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Marshall University, as well as a Master’s degree in Mathematics from Duke University.
Rebecca Polan
President, Allied Realty
As the President of Allied Realty, Rebecca is responsible for implementing major property developments at the Waynesboro, Virginia location. She also manages the daily operations, marketing and leasing of Allied's downtown West Virginia and Virginia real estate holdings.
In 2009 Rebecca initiated an employee leadership development program and is a certified Myers-Briggs administrator.
Rebecca is a member of the Augusta County, Harrisonburg and Charlottesville Chambers of Commerce and is focused on ensuring Allied Logistics is a visible member of its communities.
Rebecca’s educational background has made her an invaluable asset to the Allied family of companies. Polan holds a B.A. in Psychology from Smith College a Master’s degree in Public Administration with a specialization in Leadership Development from American University and a certificate in Supply Chain Management from MIT.
Michael J. Carroll
Vice President, Warehousing Operations
Michael Carroll has over 40 years of experience in the logistics field, over 30 with Allied Logistics. His extensive background in public warehousing, with experience with grocery, chemical, and pharmaceutical products, gives him an intimate understanding of the storage challenges facing clients in the ever-changing field of warehousing and distribution.
Michael has made presentations at the Warehouse Education and Research Council Annual Conference. He is an active member in the Local Emergency Planning Committee, and is also a member of many civic and sports organizations.
He is a graduate of Marshall University with Bachelor’s degrees in Accounting and History.
Jennifer Wolfe
Vice President, Transportation Operations
Jennifer Wolfe joined Reo Distribution in 1991 in the Operations Department where she was General Manager of all operations. She is now Executive Vice President of Reo Distribution. Ms. Wolfe now works in all executive management areas of the company including consolidation, logistics, transportation, warehousing, and freight management.
Prior to joining Reo Distribution, Jennifer worked for over 25 years in the transportation industry. She served on the management team of Preston Trucking in Operations Management for 5 years. From Preston Trucking, Ms. Wolfe joined Smith’s Transfer Corporation in rating, billing, and labor relations.
Jennifer attended Blue Ridge Community College where she focused on the business curriculum. She has subsequently completed training in the areas of OSHA Compliance, International Maritime Dangerous Goods, Lean Management, International Trade and Leadership.
An active community member, Jennifer is President of her Home Owners Association, an avid supporter of the Women’s Basketball Program at Eastern Mennonite College and a supporter of the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.
Karen R. Lyzenga
Chief Financial Officer
Karen Lyzenga joined Allied Logistics in 2007 after 20 years in the accounting profession, including 4 years at a non-profit agency and 16 years in public accounting with an emphasis on taxation and performance of audits.
Karen is responsible for providing strategic leadership for the company by working with the Executive Management Team to establish long-range goals, strategies, plans and policies with regards to financial interests and their effects on operational decisions. She is responsible for risk management; financial reporting; analyzing financial impact of operational issues; maintaining an internal control system; administering employee benefits; supervision of the accounting department and maintaining relationships with lending institutions and the financial community.
Karen is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the West Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants. She previously served as President of the Huntington Chapter of the West Virginia CPAs and the Ohio Valley Accountants Association. She is currently treasurer of the Accounting Education Foundation.
Karen graduated summa cum laude with a B.B.A. from Marshall University and received her CPA designation shortly thereafter.
Carl Vance
Vice President, Processing Operations
Carl Vance joined the Allied Logistics family in 1999 following a 15 year career in the transportation industry. Prior to joining Allied, Carl served as General Manager of a highly successful truck leasing operation in West Virginia, Kentucky, and Ohio.
A native of Huntington, West Virginia, Carl sits on the West Virginia Manufacturers Association Board of Directors and is a member of the Chemical Industrial Council.
Carl graduated from Marshall University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management.
Sharon Driscoll
Senior Vice President, Virginia Operations
Sharon Straub Driscoll has been an invaluable member of the Reo Distribution management team since 1988 when she co-founded the company with Reo Hatfield. Prior to this she worked for the former Smith Transfer Corporation for 15 years where she played an instrumental role in the marketing and account management departments. Sharon is presently Senior Vice President of Reo Distribution Services where she oversees the logistic functions of property brokerage, transportation, warehousing, freight management, customer service and sales.
Sharon attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and Elizabeth Brant's School of Business. She has been an active member of the Piedmont Transportation Association since 1986, served as their treasurer for 11 years and presently serves on their board. She was awarded Woman of the Year in 2004. She is a member and Trustee of the First Presbyterian Church of Staunton, Virginia where she served as a seated Elder of the Session Class of 2005. Sharon is presently a member of the Historic Staunton Foundation, Staunton Augusta Art Center, Staunton Performing Arts, Augusta County Historical Society, SPCA and a Lifetime Volunteer of Augusta Health Hospital. She also supports the Wesley Straub Scholarship Fund of Bridgewater College.
Edward L. Canterbury
Vice President, West Virginia Sales & Administration
Edward Canterbury has aided the growth and development of the Allied Logistics reputation over the course of nearly 30 years with the company. He has over 56 years of experience in transportation and warehousing, holding several executive positions across the industry before coming to Allied Logistics in 1982.
Ed has served as president of several community organizations, including the Civitans, Kiwanis and Junior Chamber of Commerce. He is presently active with the Warehousing Education and Research Council and fulfills speaking engagements with college transportation programs.
An Air Force veteran in the Korean War, Ed holds a B.S. Degree in Business Administration from the University of Charleston.
Marilyn Polan
Director of Human Resources
Before joining Allied Logistics in 1996 as the Director of Human Resources, Marilyn Polan worked for 10 years as an executive headhunter in Dallas.
Responsible for employee benefits, training and employee education of benefits, she acts as liaison between management and the employees.
Marilyn has worked closely with many philanthropic organizations: Huntington Main Street, United Way of the Tri-Cities, CONTACT Huntington and Marshall University. Marilyn currently serves on the boards of the Huntington Museum of Art and Federated Jewish Charities, and is involved with the local chapter of SHRM (Society of Human Resources Managers).
Marilyn graduated with a B.A. in English from Wright State University and holds a Certificate in Human Resources from Collin County Community College.
